Your headlights run on the same electrical system as everything else in the car, so when that system's voltage isn't steady, the lights show it before you notice anything else.
A common cause is a charging system that isn't delivering steady voltage — a failing alternator, a worn serpentine belt, or a loose connection can all cause the electrical system's output to rise and fall instead of staying constant. Flickering that happens specifically when you hit a bump or turn the wheel often points to a loose or corroded connection somewhere in the wiring rather than the alternator itself.
