What to Expect

What Happens When You Bring It In

You describe what it’s doing

A light, a hesitation, a smell, a stall. You don’t need the part name.

We scan it and show you

Factory-level codes and live data, explained in plain language, free.

You get a written estimate

If the code points to a real repair, parts, labor and fees are itemized before we start.

We call before we exceed it

If extended diagnostic time turns up something bigger, work stops and we call.

Why Here

Factory Training Isn’t a Fence.
It’s Where We Start.

This is where factory diagnostic equipment stops being a talking point and starts being the whole difference. Current calibration data matters most exactly here.

A written estimate before we touch anything

Michigan law requires it above $50. We’d do it anyway. If a repair is going to run past the estimate, we call you first — every time.

Your warranty stays intact

Federal law protects your right to service your vehicle wherever you want. We’re not going to tell you otherwise. We’d just rather earn it.

Dealers usually cost less, not more

Cox Automotive’s 2025 study put the average dealership repair at $261 against $275 at general repair shops. Kelley Blue Book calls the opposite belief perception bias rather than reality.

Where We Work

What Areas Does Lasco Auto Repair & Tire Serve for Check Engine & Computer Diagnostics?

We’re on Ali Drive off S Saginaw, minutes from I-75 and Hill Road, and a check-engine light is one of the most common reasons drivers across this area come looking for a real answer instead of a guess. Most diagnostic customers come from Grand Blanc and Grand Blanc Township, including the 48507 side of the Saginaw and Hill corridor, plus Burton, Davison and Swartz Creek.

Questions

Straight Answers

Does a free scan tell you exactly what’s wrong?

It tells you the code and what system it points to, which is most of the way there. Some codes need live data or component testing beyond the scan itself to pin down the exact cause — we’ll always tell you plainly if that’s the case before charging for it.

Why do generic code readers sometimes give a different answer than the dealer?

A basic reader pulls the code; factory-level equipment pulls the code plus manufacturer-specific data and calibration history, which is often what separates a correct diagnosis from a guess.

Is it safe to keep driving with the check engine light on?

A steady light usually means it’s safe to drive short-term but worth getting checked soon. A flashing check engine light means stop driving and get it looked at right away — that pattern typically signals a misfire that can damage the catalytic converter.

Will diagnostic work here affect my factory warranty?

No. Federal law protects your right to have your vehicle serviced wherever you choose without losing your factory warranty.
